Genuine leather

Genuine leather is a natural product and slight colour variations are normal as hides absorb the colours to different degrees. The colour can change slightly over time as leather reacts to direct sunlight, dirt and perspiration. Natural traces such as scars and insect bites are normal and a characteristic of leather with natural grain. We therefore recommend that leather cushions are not exposed to direct sunlight.

Our leather is handcrafted in compliance with legal regulations and guidelines and recommendations regarding the properties of use. This also applies to the use of chemicals and other means of production. In this area, we cooperate with recognised international organisations. This is to ensure that we are always informed about the latest developments in the fields of health, safety and environmental protection.

The leather for our pillows is a natural material made from cow hides. After tanning and after passing through further production steps to achieve the usage properties, the hide is called leather. A characteristic feature is the natural pattern, which depends on the environment and care of the animal. Cattle spend their lives mainly outdoors, so they are subject to external influences such as insect bites, scratches, scars, wrinkles and stretch marks, etc.

What you should know and observe about the properties of leather: Leather is a natural product and therefore a beautiful and dynamic material for pillows. Each hide is unique in its structure, appearance, nuances and size. We may use several skins in cushion production. The colour play of the leather and the natural grain make each cushion unique. Leather cushions age with style and get a fine patina. Keep in mind that although leather cushions are very robust, their appearance will not change.

Over the years. The following applies to all our leather products: hides absorb colours differently, so the leather can show slight colour nuances. This is due to the unevenness and diversity of the fibre structure, which plays an important role in the colour absorption of the hide. The tanning process also has different effects on the colour absorption of the skin.

All our leather qualities are dyed through, but there may still be colour differences between the surface colour of the hide (the colour visible on the upholstery surface) and the colour of the grain side (the outside), e.g. the outer skin. This is normal. It may be that leather with different surface colours does not differ in colour on the underside. Colours and dyeing methods differ depending on the leather colour and quality. Therefore, the inside and outside sides (the cushion surface with the final desired colour) may differ in colour depending on the quality of the leather.

A protective layer protects the leather and makes cleaning easier, yet it is vulnerable to dirt and wear. If the protective layer/surface colour is destroyed, the leather can age more quickly. Penetrating liquids, deep scratches and damage are usually irreparable and can cause the surface colour to change, break or flake. Clothing made of heavy cotton such as jeans will cause more wear and tear and may result in paint abrasion that is difficult to remove or at risk of damaging the paint surface. Particularly light-coloured leathers are affected. However, extreme exposure to light can lead to colour changes. We therefore strongly recommend that you do not permanently expose leather cushions or upholstery to direct sunlight.

Note: Leather is relatively durable, but can quickly be destroyed if handled incorrectly.
